In order for the Section 8 Program to be successful, it is vital that a good working relationship is developed between Tampa Housing Authority and property owners and managers who contract with the THA to provide housing for program participants. One of the goals of our online training is to provide landlords with all the information they will need to be successful not only renting to a Section 8 participant, but as a landlord in general.
Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8)
The housing choice voucher program provides assistance to very low-income families to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing. Housing can include single-family homes, townhouses and apartments and is not limited to units located in subsidized housing projects.

GENERAL PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
Housing choice vouchers are administered locally by the Tampa Housing Authority. A family that is issued a housing voucher is responsible for finding a suitable housing unit of the family’s choice where the owner agrees to rent under the program. A housing subsidy is paid to the landlord directly by the THA on behalf of the participating family. The family then pays the difference between the actual rent charged by the landlord and the amount subsidized by the program.
